Pop-up Film Studios
Liverpool’s first pop up Film & TV Studios
Liverpool City Council has been granted £2.85 million from the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority as part of the Liverpool Economic Recovery Plan put in place to aid the city from the effects of the Covid-19 Pandemic.
The recovery plan included a specific business case relating to the need for film and TV production space in the city due to huge demand, as Liverpool is the most filmed city outside of London. Studio space availability within the UK as a whole is short.
The situation has been exacerbated by Covid-19, as productions which would traditionally film on location, are now looking to move into studios where social distancing guidelines can be managed more effectively.
In late 2020, the Council selected Morgan Sindall as contractors to build two 20,000 sq.ft. sound stages for film and TV production on the former MTL site on Edge Lane adjacent to the forthcoming Littlewoods Studios development.
The development site, accessed via Innovation Boulevard and Digital Way, is comprised of 3 plots which will contain the following;
- Plot A – 166 space car park including 13 DDA approved car parking spaces.
- Plot B – Two 20,000 sq.ft. Filming studio structures with road access and additional car parking facilities.
- Plot C – Ancillary space for the use of production companies.
The project also includes minor improvements to the public realm.
You can access full details of the development via the approved planning application on the Local Planning Authority planning portal.
The Liverpool Film Office will market the studios and manage them after completion. Details will be released via Regeneration Liverpool and Liverpool Film Office.
